Rumi didn't just inherit demon marks. She inherited a lie — one her foster mother told herself for 23 years. This week, the fandom cracked it open.

Rumi Kang. Purple mohawk. Glowing demon marks. Pink Saingeom sword. One gold slit eye.
The girl who was told, her whole life, to cover it all up.
This week's deep dive: where Rumi's burden actually comes from — and it's not Gwi-Ma.

The fandom wiki confirms: Celine raised Rumi after Mi-yeong Ryu's death, and spent two decades telling Rumi to hide her demon marks, insisting they were a flaw to be erased by the golden Honmoon.
But the film's dialogue has always felt off. When Celine says "when we lost your mother, I swore to protect all that was left of her," she doesn't say how Mi-yeong died. Passive. Vague. Guarded.
A viral Reddit theory 1 argues the answer is: Celine did it herself. She saw Mi-yeong's demon-pattern birthmark — the same one Rumi has — and, shaped by the hunter doctrine that anything demonic must be destroyed, made a choice she could never undo.
An early KPDH development draft, confirmed by crew member Simon Baek, 2 explicitly explored Celine being responsible for Mi-yeong's death before it was removed from the final film. It's not canon — but the emotional logic stayed in every scene they kept.
"We can cover those up and put everything right again." That's not a mentor. That's guilt talking.
Image 3 — Jinu's Sister: The 400-Year Bookend
One of the sub-reddit's highest-scoring theory posts 3 (951 upvotes, 99.4% upvote ratio) is still circulating in fandom discussions this week.
The argument: in KPDH's opening flashback, a Joseon-era mother and young girl are saved by the first hunters. The post argues these figures are Jinu's mother and younger sister — not reused character models, but an intentional narrative callback.
If true, the implications are enormous for Rumi's connection to Jinu:
- Hunters saved Jinu's family 400 years ago
- Jinu's sister, who grew up watching her musician brother sing, may have eventually become a hunter herself
- And 400 years later, a hunter — Rumi — saved whatever was left of Jinu's soul (contained in the Saingeom sword)
"That his sister got to live a longer and happier life than he did? That he did not actually condemn them to die, despite what he believed?"
The bookend. The thing Jinu never got to know.
